Metadata: Seawater temperature records for the UK Shelf - 12 - Mnemiopsis Ecology Modelling and Observation Project
Abstract:
This dataset has been extracted as part of an exercise to assemble "all" Cefas Temperature Data and publish it in a Data paper. It is one of 17 Cefas data sources assembled. The MEMO (Mnemiopsis Ecology Modelling and Observation) Project was part of a wider sampling programme in collaboration with Ifremer and ULCO (France), ILVO (Belgium) and Deltares (Netherlands). The data collected were used to produce models (e.g. an Individual Biological Model, and hydrodynamic, ecosystem and socioeconomic models – Collingridge et al. (2014), Van Der Molen et al. (2015) that increased the understanding of the life cycle of Warty Comb Jellyfish (Mnemiopsis leidyi), the interactions of gelatinous zooplankton within their ecosystem and the consequences of increasing number of gelatinous zooplankton in European shelf seas for stakeholders (industry such as power plants, fisheries and tourism). The project collected samples for analysis of fish larvae and fish eggs, microzooplankton and mesozooplankton and phytoplankton. CEFAS Cruises included were: RV Endeavour 05/2011- Western English Channel (ICES area VIIE), RV Endeavour 05/2012 - Western English Channel (ICES area VIIE), RV Endeavour 07/2012 - North Sea (Botney Gut/Silver Pit) & RV Endeavour 7X/2012 - North Sea.

Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Seawater temperature records for the UK Shelf - 12 - Mnemiopsis Ecology Modelling and Observation Project |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | CEFAS60ad25cb-5fc0-468d-af1f-8ceda5e46e88 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | CEFAS3441 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2011-03-06 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2012-11-08 |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Samples were collected using 200µm mesh ring net 0.5m diameter (for zooplankton samples) and physical data was collected via a CTD attached to a ring net. Temperature data extracted from the CTD files. The multiple sources are described in 17 separate metadata entries under the same Title, e.g. Seawater temperature records for the UK Shelf - 15 - RV Cefas Endeavour FerryBox Monitoring System. These data have been described in detail via the following publication. Morris, D. J., Pinnegar, J. K., Maxwell, D. L., Dye, S. R., Fernand, L. J., Flatman, S., Williams, O. J., and Rogers, S.
