Metadata: Survey : CEND 5/12 (part of South Western Beam Trawl Survey, Qtr 1 (FSS: Q1SWBEAM))
Abstract:
This survey was undertaken by Cefas as part of the South Western Beam Trawl Survey, Qtr 1 (FSS: Q1SWBEAM); Annual research vessel surveys in the Western English Channel using 4m beam trawls in support of EU data regulations and as part of an ICES funded research program. Randomly selected survey position design. In 2012 the survey coverage was extended to cover the Celtic Sea using both the 4m beam trawl and the GOV trawl. In 2013 the survey returned to using the 4m beam trawl only. Additional aims include collection of benthic, water temperature and salinity and acoustic data. Survey took place between 15/03/2012 and 10/04/2012 on CEFAS Endeavour Equipment used during this survey : - No Blinder Port deployed Beam Trawl 4m steel commericial with extended codend - Starboard deployed Beam Trawl 4m steel commericial with extended codend - Vertical Profiler CTD Type 8770 Survey operations were undertaken on 141 stations 229 different species were caught on this survey

Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 10226 |
Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Survey : CEND 5/12 (part of South Western Beam Trawl Survey, Qtr 1 (FSS: Q1SWBEAM)) |
Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | VIIe March Fishing survey; Q1 multigear survey |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | CEFAS825195a9-7a1a-44d2-b186-64bd2b630388 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | CEFAS11225 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2012-03-15 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2012-04-10 |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | annually |

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Surveys began in 2006. Data collected using the Cefas electronic data capture system (EDC), and uploaded to the Cefas Fishing Survey System (FSS) database. The first tow of the survey is often a "test" tow and is sometimes fished outside of the main survey grid. Data captured include station details, catch, length (all species) and biological (selected species) data. Biological samples are returned to the laboratory for processing and age determination. Species and gear code lists are available via the additional information source field. |
