Metadata: Irish Sea Fish Egg Production Survey 2006
Abstract:
This survey series took place from 2006 to 2010 and consisted of 15 voyages. Plankton samples were collected at each site on a planned survey grid. This data consists of the numbers of fish eggs and larvae, along with associated positional data and volumes filtered. A fine mesh (80 micron) 'PUP' sampler, attached to the frame of the Gulf VII sampler, was used to collect plankton samples for analysis of zooplankton species. These were analysed under Cefas contract C3576 and are recorded separately.

Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Irish Sea Fish Egg Production Survey 2006 |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | CEFASd6628e0c-eaf8-4a1c-a240-09f2542da024 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | CEFAS3799 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2006-01-08 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2006-04-21 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | 1000 |
Spatial resolution unit | This describes the unit of spatial resolution which for distance must be metres. | urn:ogc:def:uom:EPSG::9001 |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The main aims for these cruises were to; - Conduct a plankton survey using a 76cm Gulf VII plankton sampler to determine the distribution and abundance of cod (- Gadus Morhua- )- ,- haddock (- Melanogrammus aeglefinus- ), and plaice (- Pleuronectes platessa- ) eggs. - Remove stage 1A and 1B gadoid-like eggs from fresh plankton samples at sea. To measure, stage and preserve these eggs in ethanol prior to species identification using a DNA technique on return to the laboratory (CEFAS). CELTIC VOYAGER Cruise 03/2006: 81 plankton stations of the original 107 planned were successfully completed. Every Gulf VII plankton sample was taken into the shipboard laboratory, where fish eggs were measured and staged. Those eggs in the size range 1.1 to 1.75mm, and in stage 1, were preserved individually in ethanol. A total of 1653, early stage, cod-sized eggs were removed from the samples for subsequent species identification by DNA sequencing. CELTIC VOYAGER Cruise 04/2006: In total 55 plankton stations were sampled. A total of 885 stage I cod-like eggs were sorted at sea, measured, staged and individually fixed in ethanol.
