Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 1993 Shetland and Fair Isle Environment and Resource Technology Limited (ERT) benthic survey to determine impact of Braer oil spill |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 04b7aafd9c974f9108e1219069923e17 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | MRMLN0040000002E |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1993-04-01 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1993-05-31 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Marine benthic species abundance data from a survey carried out between April and May 2003 to give an indication of the impact and spatial extent of the Braer oil spill. |
Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Survey carried out between April and May 2003 by ERT, on behalf of Aberdeen University Research and Industrial Services Ltd (now The University of Aberdeen Institute for Coastal Science and Management), to give an indication of the impact and spatial extent of the Braer oil spill. Benthic samples were taken from three areas (South Fair Isle, St Magnus Bay and 5 km west of Burra, off the Shetland peninsula) with five sample taken at each site with a 0.1m2 Day grab. Species were sieved on a 0.5mm mesh and identified to species level and macro faunal abundance recorded. Station positions are available. Hydrocarbon analysis was also recorded. The project was on behalf of the Ecological Steering Group on the Oil Spill at Shetland (ESGOSS) This data has been entered under a Defra/NBN contract CRO313. |
