Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 1978 Dorset County Council Planning Department Underwater Survey |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 241ce105ede37a3c7737c7a21cc218e2 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | MRMLN00100000141 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1978-08-01 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1978-09-30 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Achaeus cranchii presence record from Dorset. This record is a subset of a larger dataset containing species abundance data. |
Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The aim of the project was to carry out a scientific study in order to record the life in the underwater areas between Portland Bill and Lyme Regis, to identify, if practicable, any man-made threats to the preservation of the marine flora and fauna in the area and to disseminate information to interested voluntary organizations and the public in general relating to the underwater interest of the West Dorset coast in an effort to gain public support for the conservation of this interest for future generations to see and enjoy. The survey was undertaken using SCUBA techniques and concentrated on the mapping of associations and their habitats as described in the report of the Second Dorset Underwater Survey in 1978. The seaward extent of the survey area was variable but reached a maximum of 2.5km from the coast, near Seatown. Sites from the littoral zone to 18m below chart datum were visited. Data were obtained from 40 sites most of which were in the sublittoral, though five were in the littoral zone. |
Additional information | This describes relevant references to the data e.g. reports, articles, websites plus other useful information not captured elsewhere. | Dorset County Council Planning Department, Heritage (1979) Report of the third Dorset underwater survey |
