Metadata: 2011 Natural England (NE) Isles of Scilly, offshore survey
Abstract:
Report following an offshore survey of the Isles of Scilly conducted by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) on behalf of Natural England (NE). The survey aimed to conduct the survey work according to the chosen sampling design and equipment and to map the extent of reef, identifying the varying reef types and to provide data to advise the likely geographic limits of reef features. In addition the survey aimed to identify and record the nature and location of any obvious human impacts identified within or near the sites.

Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2011 Natural England (NE) Isles of Scilly, offshore survey |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 33a629c9f2f0b52018b3a61cb0546886 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | NATENG000377 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2011-11-01 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2011-11-03 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Report following an offshore survey of the Isles of Scilly candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC). The survey incorporated both acoustic and ground-truthing. The seafloor was mapped using a combination of multibeam bathymetry and sidescan sonar. Real-time 3d viewing of the seafloor, derived from the multibeam, allowed potential areas of rocky reef to be identified and ground-truthing sites selected. Ground-truthing was done using a drop video camera and stills system. For each ground-truthed site the video was recorded for the whole transect length and the stills at 1 minute intervals, where possible. This footage was viewed by scientists, real-time, and a summary of habitat types and dominant fauna made. In addition, fixed fishing gear was logged using the vessels survey navigation system. The report includes the results of the acoustic survey (a seafloor map) and habitat descriptions for each station along with still images. If any sensitive species or biotope records are present within this dataset, they will have been removed. If you wish to request access to sensitive species records, please contact the metadata contact. The UK Sensitive Species list has been agreed by UK statutory bodies and relevant experts. It can be viewed here https://docs.nbnatlas.org/sensitive-species-list/. Please note sensitive species lists can vary across the UK. |
