Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Environmental baseline survey conducted 15 and 15/10/2006 along a proposed pipeline and umbilical route between the Curlew FPSO and the proposed Curlew C UCP1 Well location in UKCS 29/7 Platform Type, 31 Research Vessel Ship Name, MV Sea Explorer On the 15th and 16th October 2006 Gardline Environmental Ltd carried out an environmental survey along the proposed pipeline and umbilical route between the Curlew FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) and the proposed Curlew C UCP1 Well Location, in UKCS 29/7. The survey was conducted aboard the Gardline Shipping survey vessel MV Sea Explorer. The survey was carried out in conjunction with a number of other seismic and environmental surveys (reported elsewhere) in Shell's central North Sea fields. A map of the location of UKCS 29/7 is presented as Figure 1.1. Curlew FPSO, the proposed Curlew UCP1 well site and proposed sampling station locations are shown in Figure 1.2. The proximity of the proposed pipeline route to other well sites in and around UKCS 29/7 is shown as Figure 1.3. The object of the survey was to recover sediment samples sufficient to allow for an assessment of the current environmental status of the seabed prior to the installation of a subsea pipeline and umbilical connecting the proposed Curlew C UCP1 well site to Curlew FPSO. The scope of work proposed a grab sampling program of 11 stations located every 500m along the pipeline route. Following interpretation of seabed imagery and geophysical data (reported in detail elsewhere) it was agreed in consultation with the on board client representative to sample all 11 stations, with no additional stations deemed necessary. At each of the stations, three samples were acquired for macrofaunal analysis and one for physical and chemical analyses. Proposed sample locations are summarized in Table 1.1 and Figure 1.2. The actual positions, together with the range and offset from the intended location, are given in surveyor's log sheets presented in Appendix A. Samples collected for macrofaunal analysis were screened on board through a certified 500 m mesh sieve and then preserved in buffered formalin. Two macrofaunal samples were worked up and a third retained as a spare. A single Day grab sample was collected from every station for quantitative and qualitative physico chemical analyses. Separate sub samples were taken from the Day grab for later determination of sediment particle size, THC (total hydrocarbon concentration), n alkanes, PAH (polyaromatic hydrocarbons), APES (alkylphenolpolyethoxylates), PCB (polychlorinated biphenyls), metals, organic tins and radioactivity. All subsamples were stored frozen until analysed. Positional information presented in this report is referenced to the International Spheroid ED50 Common Offshore, TM Projection CM 0. Kilometre points (KP) indicate distance along the proposed pipeline route from the porposed pipeline start point.
