Metadata: 2009 Seastar Survey and Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT), Dorset Integrated Seabed Study (DORIS), Drop-camera survey
Abstract:
Survey run by Seastar Survey for Dorset Wildlife Trust. Ground-truthing survey to identify important seabed habitats off Dorset. Survey transects were selected using multibeam bathymetry and backscatter survey results. 119 survey lines, either 500m or 1000m long, were surveyed using a number of video and still cameras attached to a frame lowered to the seabed. A live feed from the video camera to the survey vessel allowed continuous monitoring of the camera frame. High resolution video was continuously recorded from the seabed cameras and still photographs were taken using a surface controlled trigger. Survey vessel position was recorded by GPS, depth recorded by vessel echosounder. Semi-quantitative analysis of the video footage and quantitative analysis of the still photographs was carried out following the survey.

Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 4557 |
Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2009 Seastar Survey and Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT), Dorset Integrated Seabed Study (DORIS), Drop-camera survey |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | a4d10f79cdaff22c41e554c3b9e264dc |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | DWT-DORIS |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2009-06-02 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2009-09-27 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Seabed digital photographs and video collected from 500m to 1km long transects using cameras mounted on a seabed camera frame. Transects were selected with reference to multibeam bathymetry and backscatter and planned to cover as much of the range of environmental features of the area as possible. The camera frame was lowered to the seabed and drifted along above the seabed at a rate of approx 0.5 kts. Live video feed was monitored in the survey vessel and still photos taken using a trigger in the wheelhouse. Survey vessel position was derived from DGPS. |
