Sabellaria spinulosa presence records from detailed video and photo tow sledge surveys in Dorset, 20 miles south of Anvil Point. The study of the bottom fauna and bedforms in this tide-swept region of the English Channel was conducted using a towed sledge fitted with photographic and TV cameras. This added to previous data collected by side-scan sonar. Data was collated by MarLIN for the provisional list of Nationally Important Marine Features.

Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. |
Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | A study was made of the bottom fauna and bedforms in a tide-swept region of the central English Channel, where tidal streams exceed 160cm s-1 on spring tides. Previous surveys with side-scan sonar had indicated the presence of parallel furrows and sand ribbons on the seabed, which were aligned with the tidal streams. The present investigation used a towed sledge fitted with photographic and TV cameras. This survey was collated by MarLIN as part of a data collation contract for species on the provisional list of Nationally Important Marine Features. |
