Metadata: 1952-1953 Port Erin Isle of Man Fauna of a muddy sand deposit
Abstract:
Echinus esculentus records from Isle of Man. This data is a subset of a more extensive survey of benthic fauna carried out in order to investigate the possibilities of comparing biomass of bottom fauna at different localities with the same grade of deposit. It was also carried out to provide basic data for investigation into bottom fauna biomass at a single locality over a period of years. This survey was collated by MarLIN as part of a contract to find information on the distribution of species and habitats in the Irish Sea as part of the Irish Sea Pilot project.

Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Echinus esculentus records from Isle of Man. It was also carried out to provide basic data for investigation into bottom fauna biomass at a single locality over a period of years. Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The main series of samples were taken with a 0.1m2 van Veen bottom sampler. Additional hauls were obtained using a runner-dredge with a stramin bag to sample the more active animals in the benthos and those living close to the bottom. The contents of the dredge were brought back to the laboratory unsorted and examined over a portion at a time. Event reference refers to the serial number of the dredge taken from the paper. |
