Metadata: 2002 The Environment Agency (EA) and English Nature (EN), The Wash, sublittoral grab survey
Abstract:
Report detailing the results of a sublittoral survey of the Wash undertaken in 2002. The survey is part of a routine Environment Agency (EA) macrobenthic survey of the Wash, however some changes were made. Whilst all survey sites were sampled, the mesh size used was increased to 1.0mm (0.5mm in previous years) to reduce time and expense. As a result, direct comparison with previous years is not always possible.

Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 5618 |
Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2002 The Environment Agency (EA) and English Nature (EN), The Wash, sublittoral grab survey |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | ebebb332b27c4be09a287eed476f2e4c |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | NATENG000218 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1991-08-01 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2002-12-31 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Report detailing the results of a sublittoral survey of the Wash, undertaken in 2002, as part of a routine Environment Agency (EA) macrobenthic survey of the area. Previous years had used 0.5mm sieves (1991, 1993 and 1999) with some 1.0mm sieves (in 1991 only) whilst this 2002 survey used 1.0mm sieves only. As a result, direct comparison is only possible with those sites surveyed in 1991 using a 1.0mm sieve. All 66 sites were surveyed, with three Day grab samples taken at each. The samples were sieved on board the boat and analysed. The sediment was characterised and the infauna assessed - including faunal density, types at each site etc. The distribution of certain species is presented. Data from all four survey years is presented and comparisons made where possible. In addition, biotope maps are presented for all four survey years. |
