Metadata: 1991 English Nature (EN) The Fleet Dorset Quadrat survey of Zostera and Ruppia
Abstract:
This is a repeat study of the Fleet, executed in August of 1991. The method of survey and number of 'quadrats' surveyed was broadly similar to that executed in 1985 following a more extensive survey in 1983. The dataset contains GIS point data overlays of the Fleet area showing the distribution and zonation of the seagrass beds. These results were compared with the previous investigation in 1983.
Data holder:

Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. |
Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | In total 151 quadrats were surveyed. All sites were surveyed from a boat; some surveys in 1983 and 1985 were executed on foot at low-tide along the shore. At each of the 151 sites an approximate area of 100 square metres was surveyed and the percentage cover of the individual plant species estimated. A glass-bottom viewing chamber was used to enhance vision and hundreds of plants had shoots removed to check species identification. For the purpose of this survey, cover from non-attached algae was considered separately from that which was rooted; as such, therefore, a total cover of more than a 100% was possible if algae were deposited on top of eel-grass.
