ARGO A broad-scale global array of temperature/salinity profiling floats, known as Argo, a major component of the ocean observing system.

Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) Advisor to the UK’s Ministry of Defence on defence related science and technology.

Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) Plays an important role in co-ordinating UK marine environment policy. Helps to protect UK seas and coastal waters through strict controls and monitoring.

Environment Agency (EA) The leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales.

EuroGOOS is an Association of Agencies, founded to further the goals of GOOS, particularly the development of Operational Oceanography in the European Sea areas and adjacent oceans.

Fisheries Research Services (FRS) plays an important role in co-ordinating UK marine environment policy. Helps to protect UK seas and coastal waters through strict controls and monitoring.

Inter-Agency Committee on Marine Science and Technology (IACMST) maintains an over-view of marine activities across UK Government.

IOC GOOS site is a permanent global system for observations, modelling and analysis of marine and ocean variables to support operational ocean services worldwide.

JASON Jason-1 continues the task of providing the oceanographic altimeter data time-series originated by TOPEX/Poseidon, carrying updated versions of the same instruments.

J-COMM The WMO/IOC Joint Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology (JCOMM) is an intergovernmental body of experts, which provides the international, intergovernmental coordination, regulation and management mechanism for an operational oceanographic and marine meteorological observing, data management and services system.

Marine Environmental Data Action Group (MED-AG) The sister group to the UK GOOS-AG, MED-AG aims to increase the availability and awareness of marine environmental data, to develop guidelines for data management and to improve the mechanisms for data exchange.

Met Office Activities include the collection of marine environmental data, for use in running operational weather and oceanographic forecasting models and to provide vital information on marine and ocean climate.

Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Amongst other fields, NERC promotes and supports basic, strategic and applied research, survey, and long-term environmental monitoring in marine biology, oceanographic sciences and Earth observation.

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) provides navigational products and services to the Royal Navy and to the merchant marine.
