Marine Data and Information Partnership (MDIP)

A partnership of public and private sector organisations working to provide harmonised stewardship and access to marine data and information, and so facilitate improved management of the seas around the UK. MDIP is part of OceanNET and is operated by the Inter-Agency Committee on Marine Science and Technology (IACMST)

Interoperability Working Group

  • Provide a review of current practice and useful initiatives relevant to inter-data set interoperability.
  • Identify standards necessary to support inter-DAC interoperability, and to support end use applications.
  • Identify practical steps that will facilitate progress towards interoperability first in discovery metadata, and then fuller functionality in data search, retrieval and integrated processing.
  • Ensure that developments are consistent with SPIRE and INSPIRE

MDIP metadata format for pilot MDIP Metadata Discovery Portal
MDIP is developing services for the discovery and use of data. The current effort is on data discovery services based on the platforms developed as part of the NERC DataGrid. The metadata standards being used are based on the UK Gemini Standard. Our XML schemas are based on the current Gemini documents and will be used to inform the development of the Gemini 19139 profile. The main input that MDIP makes is ensuring that Gemini can be used for ocean and marine data.
