These webpages provide access to marine data and information, and outline the work of the Marine Environmental Data Action Group. MEDAG is part of OceanNET and is operated by IACMST

The below list gives details of projects and initiatives relevant to marine data collection and management. If you would like to add your organisation to this list please e-mail: enquiries@oceannet.org.

NOOS is an operational oceanography orgnisation operated by participating partners from the 9 countries bordering the extended North Sea and European North West Shelf (Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and UK), collaborating to develop and implement ocean observing systems for the NWS area, with delivery of real time operational data products and services. Present services include sea level and model information.

The Marine Data and Information Partnership (MDIP) is a new UK initiative launched in March 2005 to provide a coordinating framework for managing marine data and information across the UK. Its mission is harmonised stewardship of and access to marine data and information, to facilitate improved management of the seas around the UK.

Mapping European Shelf Sea Habitats (MESH) aims to produce seabed habitat maps for north-west Europe (see MESH study area) and develop international standards and protocols for seabed mapping studies. To help establish a consistent approach to future mapping programmes and facilitate data exchange and aggregation, MESH will develop a set of internationally agreed protocols and standards for seabed habitat mapping.

Marine GIS is a project initiated in 2005 which aims to provide a spatial index to information and research related to marine aggregate resources. The objectives are to develop a web-based facility to access information (metadata) related to the marine aggregate sector, provide user defined content, access and search facilities to the resource - to include a spatial (web-GIS) interface, populate the metadata and spatial metadata.

Collaborative Offshore Wind Research Into Environment (COWRIE) is an fund provided by The Crown Estate that has been set up for the purpose of generic research to benefit the early stages of the offshore windfarm industry as a whole. Data collected under this initiative will be managed and made available in the future on a dedicated web-site.

System of Industry Metocean data for the Offshore and Research Communities (SIMORC) is a project initiated in 2005 which aims to provide a metadatabase and a database of actual data sets of oceanographic and marine data, such as sea level, waves, currents, sea temperature, conductivity, air temperature, air pressure, and wind, that have been collected by major oil and gas companies and will be made available through the Internet.
