Wave Data Index (BODC) provides access to wave data held in the national oceanographic database.

British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) The role of the BADC is to assist UK atmospheric researchers to locate, access and interpret atmospheric data and to ensure the long-term integrity of atmospheric data produced by NERC projects. Data on many projects is available to download from the website.

CEFAS interactive Spatial Explorer and Administrator (iSEA) is an interactive mapping server providing online access to environmental and fisheries data predominantly taken by CEFAS for the UK shelf and beyond.

British Geological Survey Geoscience Data Index (GDI). The Geoscience Data Index is a collection of data compiled by the British Geological Survey since 1835. The BGS GDI uses GIS (Geographical Information System) software which allows users to visualize information about any area within Great Britain or offshore. The data available in this free service includes geological, geophysical, geochemical, hydrogeological and geotechnical information.

British Ocean Sediment Core Research Facility (BOSCORF) provides a unique and strategic service to the UK scientific community in providing long-term storage of sediment cores collected by NERC Ships and NERC funded researchers. Provides searchable database and information on core holdings.
European Sea Sediments Meta Database (EU-SEASED) provides a searchable catalogue of over 220.000 seafloor samples from the ocean basins and continental shelves, held at European institutions. Searches can be made using a graphic interface ('Search by map') or by text filled fields (Search all fields') which allows searching on a wide range of parameters. The result of searches will only list metadata, access to samples and any related accessory datasets is for negotiation between the user and the repository where the sample is stored. Contact information is provided.

The EUROSEISMIC database provides a searchable catalogue of over 2.5 million line kilometres of marine seismic and sonar survey data held at European institutions. Searches can be made using an interface combining geographic and text fields searching, which allows searches on a wide range of parameters. The results of your search lists only metadata; access to actual data and any related datasets is for negotiation between the user and the repository where the data is stored. Contact information for each data holder/owner is provided and, where possible, the terms of data availability is given.

SEISCAN was a MAST III funded project to rescue early seismic reflection profiles, that exist only as paper records, computer scanning and archiving to a CD-ROM database of image files. Metadata is available on-line.

Stewardship of Deep Ocean Geophysics Data (SeaDOG) was started in August 1998. It is a metadata database that holds information on Deep Ocean Geophysical data including bathymetry, sidescan, seismic, photographic, magnetics and gravity. Data is searchable on-line and available on request.

Mapping European Shelf Sea Habitats (MESH) aims to produce seabed habitat maps for north-west Europe (see MESH study area) and develop international standards and protocols for seabed mapping studies. A searchable metadata catalogue of seabed mapping related studies is available on-line.

National Biodiversity Network (NBN) This site allows distribution maps of UK wildlife to be viewed and downloaded using a variety of interactive tools. Data provided by MarLIN forms part of this searchable on-line resource.

Marine Life Information Network (MarLIN) The programme provides access to marine life survey data through the Internet. You can search and view datasets by species or by location using the maps. The data displayed shows species counts, abundance or presence absence as well as any physical data (e.g. depth or substratum where provided).MarLIN is also linking the survey data to information on sensitivity of species and biotopes to create an information tool for marine environmental management, protection and education.

UK Benthos is a database of offshore benthic environmental surveys in the UK sector of the North Sea which was commisioned by the UK Offshore Operators Association to document and analyse data collected from offshore environmental surveys. It is estimated that some 520 seabed surveys were carried out between 1975 and 1998, covering work carried out by approximately 29 environmental monitoring contractors, government agencies and universities. 472 reports have been located, examined and listed in the database which is freely available on-line.

MarBEF Network is the integration of different resources related to marine biodiversity. The inventory of these resources can be found on this website. At the moment, this relational database includes information on different European marine biodiversity research sites and European marine biodiversity datasets. The European Register of Marine Species, ERMS and the European node of the Ocean Biogeographic Information System, EurOBIS is also accessible through this website.

The Tamar Estuaries Consultative Forum Information Gateway Searchable database on marine data collected in Tamar estuaries and Plymouth Sound.

Marine Irish Digital Atlas (MIDA) The atlas is a comprehensive resource for coastal and marine information and spatial data in Ireland.

Multi-agency Geographic Information for the Countryside (MAGIC) is a web-based interactive map with downloadable dataset information to bring together geographic information on key environmental schemes and designations in the UK.

UK DEAL is a web-based service which provides free information about UK offshore oil and gas installations, and shows the catalogues of data available from release agents, spec companies and operators. Data on surface and subsurface infrastructure, wells and well data and seismic surveys, lines and data is available via the internet for the UK continental shelf.

Marine GIS is a project initiated in 2005 which aims to provide a spatial index to information and research related to marine aggregate resources. The objectives are to develop a web-based facility to access information (metadata) related to the marine aggregate sector, provide user defined content, access and search facilities to the resource - to include a spatial (web-GIS) interface, populate the metadata and spatial metadata.

Collaborative Offshore Wind Research Into Environment (COWRIE) is an fund provided by The Crown Estate that has been set up for the purpose of generic research to benefit the early stages of the offshore windfarm industry as a whole. Within the website are results of recent scientific research studies, maps showing the location of windfarms that have already been built in UK waters, information about proposed site developments and a list of links to other websites.

The Marine Environmental Change Network (MECN) is a collaboration between organisations in England, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man and Northern Ireland collecting long-term time series information for marine waters. The MECN provides a catalogue of long-term time series around the UK which can be searched by parameter, contributor or keyword.

The Sir Alister Hardy Foundation for Ocean Science (SAHFOS) provides data and metadata on the biogeography and ecology of plankton since 1931 via their website. A visualisation tool for a gridded database of plankton abundance in the North Sea compiled from monthly sampling by the Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) survey has recently been launched called WinCPR. The available data cover the years 1948 to 1997 for 112 planktonic organisms or indices (both animal, zooplankton and plant, phytoplankton).
