Finding marine data and information
Marine data and information are available from a wide variety of sources. The 'data discovery portal' provides a query-driven service to find data sets. This is a prototype at the moment but will in the future provide a powerful way to discover marine data across organisations.
Many organisations and projects provide access to their data and information online. To help navigate through these web sites they are listed by theme under 'online data by theme'. Data can be real-time, near real-time or historic. Most web sites include data for UK mainland waters but relevant international web sites are also included. Some of the sites require simple registration before data can be accessed.
Marine data standards
MEDIN provides guidance on metadata generation for data sets and advice on the information that should be recorded when different types of data are being collected. Information can also be found on international metadata and data standards more information
About us
MEDIN is a partnership of UK organisations committed to improving access to marine data. Our partners are both public and private sector. MEDIN sits alongside its sibling working group the Underwater Sound Forum (USF). Both groups report directly to the Marine Science Coordination Committee (MSCC) more information
